Salden, Bucks

Had a very short walk at Salden this afternoon (recovering from sprained ankle!), but it was well worth it. Wavy-barred sable, Lackey caterpillar and Small yellow underwing. Also saw the lovely bee Osmia bicolor, which I guess needs to be added to the list of special invertebrates that need the planned mitigation from the East-West Rail project.

    Hi Mick, great that you saw Pyrausta nigrata again in the cutting at Salden! I remember that you recorded it there in 2014 which was the same year one turned up in my garden, of all places, and I assumed they were both just wanderers away from the chalk (the other 70+ records for Bucks are all from chalk grassland sites in the Chilterns). However, you saw several there in 2016 and now this one today so there has to be a resident colony - this must be the only site for it in north Bucks.

    I take it there was no sign of Chimney Sweepers there yet?

      Hi Dave. No Chimney sweepers yet and sadly, no Grizzled or Dingy skippers, but I was only there for a very short time.
