Finemere Wood, Bucks

Having not done any away-from-home trapping for a couple of weeks thanks to the deterioration in the weather, I thought I'd give Finemere Wood a go last night just to see what the state of play was.  Two MV traps were run for the usual three hours and with a decent amount of cloud cover for much of that period the temperature hadn't fallen below 14C by the time I packed up.  The traps produced a combined total of 70 species but there was very little of note.  The only moths which I hadn't already seen this year were Hypatima rhomboidella, Orange Swift and Chevron and the only ones which achieved a double-digit count were Agriphila straminella (80), Shaded Broad-bar (15) and Straw Dot (21).  Unfortunately the Hornets also got well past double figures and there were one or two moth casualties in the traps as a result.  We appear to have reached that lull in activity which normally starts later in August before the autumn species start to appear in force.
