A couple of micros

Is this first one Psychoides filicivora? Length is about right at 5mm. I have got quite a few flying around the garden during the daytime.

Is this second one Nomophilia noctuella? I was lucky to get this photo before it flew off. I had forgotten how active the moths in the trap can be once the weather warms up!

Finally just for interest I assume it is some sort of mayfly?

  1. Hi Andy, the two micros are indeed Psychoides filicivora (you presumably have ferns in the garden?) and Nomophila noctuella (a migrant). The other is one of the long-horned caddis-flies, Mystacides longicornis.

  2. Thank you. There are quite a few ferns in the part of the garden where the moths are flying around. I generally reckon that I am not well located for migrants and it was very late last year before I saw a Nomophilia noctuella. I did get a Dark Sword-grass last night as well so maybe the wind is in the right direction. I seem to be getting a reasonable number of species at present but not many individuals of any one species.
