Last night the result from the garden trap here at Westcott, Bucks was somewhat closer to where it should be at this time of year. 283 individual moths was perhaps still rather low but 90 species was more like it. Amongst them were year-list newcomers Yponomeuta evonymella, Grapholita funebrana, Acentria ephemerella, Gem, Kent Black Arches, Short-cloaked Moth, Dingy Shears, Lunar-spotted Pinion and Dotted Fan-foot. The very worn male Gem is a migrant and only the second I've had here. Kent Black Arches is one of those moths which looks stunning in MV light but photographs in daylight always disappoint! It has now appeared in the garden for three out of the last four years while Dotted Fan-foot has appeared multiple times over the same period (this is my ninth garden record, this one a female), so both are presumably established locally.
