A few more species

I ran two MV traps in local woodland last night for the usual three hours and despite the breeze got 30 species for my trouble although the overall number of moths was quite low at 58.  The most heartening thing was that there was not a single Orthosia amongst them, in fact the only early spring species on show were Early Tooth-striped (1) & Water Carpet (2).  Scalloped Hazel (9) was the most numerous moth, followed by Orange Footman (7) and Poplar Lutestring (5, plenty of aspen at this site), while other newcomers for the year included Cream Wave, Scorched Wing, Flame Carpet, Broken-barred Carpet, Small White Wave & Pale Oak Beauty.
