Maiden's Blush

It was nice to have a Maiden's Blush as our 301st garden species of the year in Wolvercote, Oxon, last night (the 300th was a Lunar Underwing - I suspect we'll be seeing quite a few more in due course) - it's a species I'd rather concluded we weren't going to see. Rather a low year count compared to last year, but conditions haven't been great one way or another. The other photo is of a moth some 17mm long which I thought was going to be unidentifiable (and still may be), but seems to me to have a feel of Purple Clay about it; size, overall shape, the hint of pale outline on the kidney mark... Its flight season is given as July-August, but we've had a few such species pop up in the last couple of days. Any thoughts?

  2. Ah, well. The shape looked a bit different from the (numerous) other S-sRs we've been getting, but there we are.
