Mint Moth on Cumnor Hill

My first post to this blog. Hello everyone. Do let me know when I identify something incorrectly!
Here is a micro mint moth which visited my garden today.

  1. Hi Charles, you have a choice between two of the so-called "Mint Moths", either Pyrausta aurata or Pyrausta purpuralis. They're both reasonably common and are flying now. Your example looks as if it might be P.aurata but you would need a better view of the hindwings to be sure. See:

  2. Thanks Dave. I guessed it was pyrausta aurata as the images online of Pyrausta purpuralis seem much more purplish.
