For Confirmation Please
From last night, all are new except possibly the Setaceous Hebrew Character - I don't remember it being so big last year and I've noticed it's not exactly the V mentioned in books.
So I think I have Clouded Silver, Middle Barred Minor (?), Setaceous Hebrew Character (?), Marbled Minor (?) and V Pug (?)

Hello Mark, yes to the first three. For the fourth it is not safe to separate Marbled/Tawny Marbled/Rufous Minor on looks alone and they need dissection to be sure of the species. The final moth is a Green Pug - keep an eye open for the slightly less common Sloe Pug which can look quite similar but normally has an obvious pink band around its body where the abdomen meets the thorax.

ReplyDeleteLarge chalky white ones early in the season in this part of the world with the fine crenate post-median line are invariably strigilis but you do need experience to pick these out.
