IDs and a question

Had a few Carpets over the past few days, I think they are Garden and Red Twin Spot? Carpets but I'd appreciate confirmation.

The other picture is something very familiar from books but I've not been able to find it.

Finally a question - how do you tell the difference between Powdered Quaker and Common Quaker?

  1. The top one does look like a Garden Carpet, Mark; the second (as well as the question about Common/Powdered Quaker), I'll leave to wiser heads, as I'm pretty sure I've had trouble with species of that sort before. The bottom one is Evergestis forficalis, also known as Garden Pebble, which is a micro-moth big enough to masquerade as a micro!

  2. It is a Red Twin-spot Carpet. Powdered Quakers are almost always an off white, pale straw colour and have a distinct row of dark spots between the reniform stigma and which are parallel to the terminal lines.

  3. and you can clearly see the row of dark dots on Dave Wilton's bottom right example in his recent posting.
